The Gift of Giving

WEEKLY COLUMN – WOKING INFORMER

Image courtesy of Sanja Gjenero, RGBStock.comThe Lightbox has become a source of pride for much of the Woking community, many of our visitors and supporters appreciate the welcoming feeling and friendly atmosphere as they enter the building, and for many it offers a sense of belonging. This is why by popular demand we have brought back the Names in Glass initiative, as it is the the perfect opportunity for people to make their mark on the building, whilst helping to support our exciting exhibitions and learning programme.  Names in Glass offers people the chance to have their name or a loved one’s name inscribed in the glass panels in The Lightbox in return for a donation.

Past participants in Names in Glass have got involved for a variety of different reasons as Rosemary Christophers explains. “We took part in the first Names in Glass before the building opened and we put our granddaughter’s name on. Our granddaughter is now five and whenever she comes up to visit, she always likes to see her name up in the glass. We now have two more grandchildren so I think it’s only fair that they should have the opportunity to feel the same joy and prestige when they see their name.”

Others have taken part for more poignant reasons; “I think Names in Glass is a marvellous idea.” says Peter Cosgrove “The Lightbox is such a friendly and welcoming place. I know my wife didn’t have the chance to see The Lightbox, but I think she would have loved it. Names in Glass is an opportunity for her to be part of it.”

The Lightbox has become well known for its imaginative exhibitions, its creative educational programmes and its collection of Woking’s historical collection and we’re now offering people the opportunity to be part of this unique building once again.
